Boy, are we wusses down here. (At least I am – I’ll just speak for myself.) The temperature dropped all day today – it’s supposed to be 33 tonight. It’s been raining and up to 25 mph winds. Just plain miserable if you ask me, but we did get 3/10 of an inch of rain, so that’s good.
The only place I went today after taking my daughter to school was an underground parking garage so I wouldn’t have to brave the elements. Hard to believe that I survived 4 winters in Minnesota in the Twin Cities area!
So, since we are still not quite past the point of freeze danger, my garage is still full o’plants. I miss the greenhouse from our previous house enough this year that I think we’ll put one in here next Fall. But, for now, my greenhouse is the garage with space heaters and a nice window for light. Here’s the tour!
My Duranta pruned to be a tree is sprouting new leaves.(This is the mystery plant that MSS @ Zanthan Gardens helped me identify.)
A cluster of half-dead or dormant pots and the Boston Fernthat Mom and Dad gave me for my birthday for Artemis’ head!

It looks as though spring is about to expode in your garage. I hope it warms up soon.
Yeah – and I need to get it cleaned out! We can’t even move in there any more!!! I feel like something exploded in there, but it wasn’t Spring!
I’m feeling like hibernating too, Diana, but your post reminded me that although the 2 plumerias are safely inside the garage – the Meyer’s lemon has to come in tonight – thanks!
Annie
I’m glad to see that someone has something in bloom and growing — it’s still very much winter here in Nova Scotia. But you can feel the change in the air — hope springs eternal! 🙂
Annie – glad I reminded you! I had to go out and bring a few things in myself. And tonight is supposed to be colder. Brrr. At least we’re close to no more freezes!
Nancy – Hope does spring eternal! That’s at the core of our gardening, isn’t it? The hope that with a little education and a little love we can coax things to grow for us? Except my seedlings, of course, who have all died now except for 2 little sprouts!
Poor plants. They want to go outside so bad, but this lovely weather just isn’t cooperating! The moisture is good though, so I guess if I have to take the cold with it, I will.
Sherry – my plants DO want to go outside. I can feel the vibe from them! Soon, soon. Maybe next week or weekend. I really want to put my tomatoes in the ground, too. So much to do, so little time….
A greenhouse would certainly be a good idea with all those plants you have that need safe keeping. I know enough of Austin now to realise that rain is a good thing! 😉
When is the danger of frost gone? Here it is round the 20th of May, after that night frost is very rare.
You’re right Yolanda – rain is a good thing around here. Even in the dead of winter here, we can have very sunny days. I used to go sit in my last green house in a lawn chair and take a snack and a book and sit in the sun inside the greenhouse when it was bitter cold outside. I miss being able to do that.
