I’ve been checking on the bunny nest daily, carefully watching the layer of bunny fur and bits of grass move gently up and down with the breathing or shifting of the babies tenderly tucked below.
Today, I watched the layer of fur and grass — and it didn’t move. Hmmm. And then I looked up just a tiny bit, to find that Benjamin Bunny had left the nest! He was sitting just a few inches from the nest, up against the corner of the kiddie picnic table I placed as a shelter over the nest. I can’t believe that just more than a week ago his little brother barely fit into the palm of my hand.
I quietly stole away and got my camera and went back for one quick and quiet shot so as not to frighten him. Now we just have to hope he and his siblings, Flopsy, Mopsy and Cottontail, and his Momma, feel adventurous and take off for parts unknown soon so Tanner can have his yard back.
Isn’t he the cutest thing?

What a sweetie. I love seeing the cotton tails in my parents’ backyard.
Good thing you didn’t let Tanner out there. Those little bunnies are just the right size for doggie treats. At least that is what Luna thinks.
Aunt Debbi – I love seeing him alive. If he’s smart he’ll scoot out of here quickly and stay that way!
Lisa – Yeah. The one he got last week fit completely inside his mouth. He was sitting there looking guilty at me when I was asking him what he’d done and he had that whole thing in there – lips sealed! he didn’t bite it, but he sure had it. Bizarre. But I don’t think this is what the vet meant when she suggested the special rabbit digestive diet!
He’s a cutey! Good thing he showed up before your vegetables ripened or you might not find him so charming.
My little gems is loaded with buds too. Any day now it’ll be blooming.
Bunnies are so cute! I just wish they weren’t such a menace.
Herself – Well, I think I have enough barrier now to keep him and his siblings and Momma out of the garden (I hope!) My magnolia still hasn’t opened — any day now I keep saying.
Robin – Yes, I weave a nice tale right now while they aren’t into anything yet. Just wait to see how my prose turns to shrieking and running around waving a broom if that changes!
Your kids must be lovin’ this little bit of nature.
Layanee – yes, my daughter is fascinated. Yesterday we watched the momma eat bird food seeds and seedlings outside our breakfast room window for a while.
